Sustainability Guide

At AvocadoStitches, we believe that the details matter. Choosing natural materials for your projects is not only a beautiful choice, it is also a more sustainable one. Here is a closer look at the natural button materials we carry and why they are worth considering over conventional plastic.

🌿 Corozo (Tagua / Vegetable Ivory)

Corozo buttons are made from the seed of the tagua palm, a plant native to South America. Often called vegetable ivory, tagua is harvested without cutting down the tree, making it a fully renewable resource. Corozo buttons are dense, durable, and develop a beautiful patina over time. They are biodegradable and a direct alternative to animal ivory and petroleum-based plastic.

🐃 Buffalo Horn

Buffalo horn buttons are crafted from the horns of water buffalo. Horn is a natural material that has been used in button-making for centuries. Each button is unique in colour and grain pattern, making them a naturally individual choice. Horn is strong, lightweight, and biodegradable, and is widely regarded as a more natural alternative to plastic.

🐚 Seashell

Our seashell buttons are made from natural shells. Each button carries the unique iridescence and patterning of the original shell. Seashell buttons are biodegradable and have been used in fine garments for centuries.

🌳 Wood

Wood buttons are one of the most traditional and sustainable choices available. Sourced from natural timber, they are biodegradable, renewable, and bring a warm, organic aesthetic to any project. Each button carries the natural grain and character of the wood it came from.

📦 Our Packaging

All orders are packaged using reused bubble wrap and shredded paper. While our packaging materials are not 100% recycled, we make a conscious effort to reuse and reduce waste wherever possible. We believe every small step counts.

Why It Matters

Conventional plastic buttons are made from petroleum-based materials and can take hundreds of years to break down. By choosing natural alternatives, you are supporting more responsible sourcing, reducing plastic waste, and investing in materials that age beautifully rather than degrading into microplastics.

Every small choice adds up. We are glad you are here making thoughtful ones.
